@PaulaToThePeople @dsfgs I believe "Cloudglare" is dsfgs's deliberate misspelling of #CloudFlare, which is the elephant in the room that your otherwise comprehensive article neglects while actually referring users to #NoMoreGoogle, a CF site that should be avoided.
@dsfgs @PaulaToThePeople You propose #Yalp as a Playstore app compromise. The fake acct still keeps track of all your installations, and if Orbot is not in the loop #Google links your fake acct to your real acct.
@PaulaToThePeople @dsfgs You propose #LinuxMint. That would have been a good suggestion a couple years ago but now most of Mint's docs have been jailed in the #privacy abusing walled garden of #CloudFlare. So I've started moving ppl away from #Mint.
@dsfgs @PaulaToThePeople #DuckDuckGo is really a terrible option. IIRC DDG has moved from #Amazon to #Microsoft, but there is a huge list of reasons to stay away from #DDG: http://techrights.org/2020/07/02/ddg-privacy-abuser-in-disguise #Ecosia is actually #Amazon hosted & #Microsoft fed, & you don't caution that. Amazon & Microsoft are both very harmful to the environment.
Why People Should Never Ever Use DuckDuckGo

DuckDuckGo is another privacy abuser in disguise; the above forum thread enumerates key reasons

@PaulaToThePeople @dsfgs #Mojeek does their own crawling, and so unlike #DDG & #Ecosia, Mojeek is not dependant on #Microsoft, which is an environmental perk above & beyond their green data center. DDG & Ecosia should really be removed, and there are several decent #searx nodes that could replace them. Searx is just software used by good and bad services, so it's better to name the good nodes.
@dsfgs @PaulaToThePeople I would either remove #Kodi, or at least heavily caution that the Kodi docs are #CloudFlare-jailed (same place as #Mint docs). I quit using Kodi for that reason. #MythTV is a decent noteworthy choice but it's not the same thing as Kodi. It's more compatible with the free world than Kodi, as MythTV gets non-DRM content from free local broadcast.
@PaulaToThePeople @dsfgs #OpenBazaar is a #CloudFlare site. It's especially a bad idea to use a CF site for shopping because CF gets sensitive info (name, address, payment info, user and pass [which some ppl foolishly reuse on multiple sites])
@dsfgs @PaulaToThePeople #Gitlab.com is a terrible suggestion particularly when there are so many viable alternatives. There are bigger problems w/Gitlab.com than #Google: https://lemmy.ml/post/30312/comment/2239 GL s/w is fine but most ppl don't run their own. It makes more sense to not even mention gitlab.com, & mention the other services that use GL s/w (framagit, git.feneas.org).
Have you ever considered moving the Lemmy repository out of Github into a more friendly site like Gitlab? - Lemmy

I mean since Microsoft bought Github. I moved all my code out of there (which is not a lot btw) [/u/dessalines](/u/dessalines) ...

@PaulaToThePeople @dsfgs Other options (non-GL): git.teknik.io, sourcehut.org, git.nixnet.xyz, git.openprivacy.ca, yerbamate.dev
