Famous coconut, without which many South Indian dishes are incomplete, originated in New Papua Guinea and travelled through seas to reach South Indian beaches. There the nuts sprouted and became object of common use. The Tamil word for Coconut is 'thenkai', means 'veggie from south'. Of course it came from South of South india.
