#Crowdsourcing

1. what kind of content do you like reading here?
2. What kind of content you miss here
3. Apart from lack of toxicity what is best you find here ?
4. What features do you miss?
5. Rate on a scale of 1-5 , 1 being lowest 5 being highest on you experience so far on #Mastodon #India

@Deepsealioness

1. Politics, Thoughtful Toots, something about cricket, TV shows. Would like to have conversations.
2. Nothing really
3. Almost Everyone is new and everyone is equal. People actually respond to my Toots and I've already interacted with a couple of awesome people.
4. Quote RT.
5. 5 all the way!!

@Deepsealioness

1. Longish personal opinions. I feel Mastodosts are more open and nuanced since there are very few users here. There is no need to pander to a large audience.
2. Shitposts and memes. Some vanilla breaking news updates would also be nice.
3. People here are more interested in conversations rather than showing off their own virtual worth.
4. Maybe more organized trending topics and a better search feature?
5. 4/5. One point because of steep learning curve for usage.

@Memeghnad @Deepsealioness definitely agree that people are interested in more conversations here as compared to bird site. I think that may be due to design. There is no 'quote toot' feature which is great! Also, no tickets for likes and boosts

#india

@Memeghnad I'll try my best to address pt. 2. 🤣 @Deepsealioness
@Deepsealioness 1. Diverse content. Some politics, but there’s SO MUCH MORE beyond it that birdsite made us loose sight of. I’d love to see more history, culture, art, self development, mindfulness, travel, and cats, of course 😉
2. Miss the pulse on latest developments, but that could just birdsite toxicity waiting to leech out.
@Deepsealioness 3. That people actually talk about things other than politics. And that politics isn’t the only thing flooding the TL
4. GIFs! But that may also be because of the app I’m using 🤔
5. I think I would give mastadon 4!
@Deepsealioness 1. Ramblings of thoughtful people 2. Jokes, memes, and mind-bending scientific/spiritual stuff 3. Not too crowded yet. Possible to engage with someone I like. At least for now. 4. Search needs to improve. 5. 4/5
@Deepsealioness
1. I came here for the socio-political stuff, but the content on history, architecture, etc. is also good. Also the nature/wildlife photos.
2. I go to birdsite for sports.
3. I like the fact that the platform isn't trying to figure out what I like and feed me just that. I get everything from all the accounts that I follow.
4. Can't think of anything major
5. 4

@Deepsealioness 5 for my experience here till now.

1. Right now majority of the content posted here even by a normal person is fun to read. There are so much thoughts it's beautiful.

2. Content I miss most is football, sports, news global local, environment and animal videos.

3. Freedom to converse. Haven't seen any Social media which has been genuinely caring, from total stranger. Empathy for human beings.

4. Lack of consistency across platforms.

#Mastodon #india

4.

@Deepsealioness

1.An open conversation of some interesting facts, innovations, inventions, geo-political facts/trivia, history and of course the regular political masala
2.Sports-be it football or formula 1, not much here
3.People are on their own, mind their stuff, but one thing,that's really annoying is cross posting everything, if they can filter the RTs from Twitter, it'll be good
4.Definitely, the quote & retweet
5.New things take time, and we've to give time to accommodate them.

@Deepsealioness experience on Mastadon, so far - 5

But I miss reading explainer threads.. (on the Indian economy/legal issues), with deep dive links

Suggestion on people to follow appreciated!

@Deepsealioness 1. Honest and straight forward opinions + people agree or disagree to things politely, people from their fields actively participating in knowledge transfer, movie discussions, personal anecdotes, $#!+ posts, pets and places picture toots.
2. Public Health related toots, movie and music recommendations.
3. Queer friendliness!!!!! Also, I can talk about stuff as a novice to a PhD schooler here.
4. Bookmarking, boost with comments and notification alerts.
5. 5/5. So far so good!
@Deepsealioness re: 3., toxicity is still there. It's not like people are very different on different parts of the Internet. But unlike Twitter, you can simply unfollow toxic people and the platform won't try its best to keep shoving it in your face regardless.
@isagalaev agree but bird app for India has paid trolls of the government having multiple handles to abuse
@Deepsealioness I don't know much about this story, but find it believable. I learned all I needed about Twitter when, after being pointed out that Trump breaks pretty much all policies you can think of, they answered along the lines of "well, you know, it's a *special* account, we won't suspend it". So I won't be surprised with them closely working with other oppressive governments.
@isagalaev here we have an organised troll factory which is why they are also moving here. You guys are at far better place at least that content violation post was taken down even from trumps handle but here we have verified handles calling for genocide and twitter say we found nothing in violation of rules

@Deepsealioness

1. Longform threads on anything ranging from personal opinion to random geeking out on biology to politics or news coverage.

2. Don't really miss anything.

3. I like the openness and accessibility displayed by the mods and immigrants from birdsite who're looking to shed their "celebrity" by being more communicative.

4. I feel like I haven't explored this platform fully yet so I can't comment on that.

5. A solid 5 from me.

@Deepsealioness @kannan

1. Analytical insightful threads on technology , science , economy , algo trading, politics , history , movies ( wish list ) by people with expertise and humility
2. Too early to conclude
3. Blue ticks or number of followers don’t seem to carry as much importance ( thankfully ) as the depth and value of content
4. Too early to tell
5. 4/5 for the freshness , absence of bigots/idiots . May be higher when I discover more content

@ravichso

BTW the instance im on #QOTO is a STEM based instance. So might want to check out some of our users if your looking for more of #1

@Deepsealioness @kannan

@freemo @Deepsealioness @kannan thank you ! Delighted . Will browse and connect . Am a certified nerd

@ravichso

I look forward to seeing you around in the comments :)

@Deepsealioness @kannan

@Deepsealioness 1) I like the way most people are responsive here and discuss any subject without trying to showoff or mock or ridicule people with different views. Of course I love political content the most here. Also enjoy discussions on sports here with even rival fans of players bonding well. 2) I miss a bit of proper news updates here otherwise very good. 3) Best thing here is people don't seem very condescending including well known folks. 4) Don't miss much here. 5) Rating a massive 5
@Deepsealioness I think we should be following the 'change my view' subreddit. It is one of the sanest place in Reddit where the opposing view is not only sought after but respected.
@Deepsealioness
1. Everything. Knowledge based, technology based, anti establishment/corporate/majority/supervisor based, shitposts (at times)
2. Really more fine tuned shitposts aka very relevant picture meme. But not really. Also the long threads of deep dive into topics
3. Friends. From different parts of the world. That's from my time before Indians came in large numbers. Empathy from Indians
4. Nothing. I can hardly use twitter these days without getting fed up.
5 5
@Deepsealioness Supremacist* not Supervisor!
Arrgh! 🤦‍♂️
@Deepsealioness
1. Anything genuine, really. Conversations among strangers becoming friends, people sharing knowledge, differing perspectives
2. More dog/cat posts lol (although, I followed a lot of animal accounts on birdsite to compensate for the negativity there)
3. People can be weird and themselves, and no ads
4. Nothing much
5. 5!
@Neeneen @Deepsealioness I completely forget about the ads! Yes that too! :)
@ajeeshrp7 @Neeneen @Deepsealioness It's like you are in hill station and you have completely forgotten about the toxic Air in cities.
@Vishsai @Neeneen @Deepsealioness exactly! Their absence is what made me totally forget about them.

@ajeeshrp7 @Vishsai @Deepsealioness all the better for our mental health

Yet: toxicity exists and a lot of people are still facing it there/irl.

@Neeneen @Vishsai tell me about it. Only today I schooled a hypocrite complaining against JNU strikes saying people should pay otherwise they will make spelling mistakes in future. His comment with two sentences had four grammatical errors. Smh.
@ajeeshrp7 @Vishsai worse when it happens in real life because you can't block them out. Even worse when it's family or people you work with. But I feel like having a safe, sane space to come back to is important, and this place seems like it for now :)

@Neeneen @ajeeshrp7 Just a question to both of you, have you started breathing better when you are using Mastodon? If you haven't checked just concentrate on the breathing when you use birdsite and mastodon for ten minutes.

For me I feel I have started breathing better and was wondering if it is the same for others.

@Vishsai @Neeneen I might be exaggerating but I actually felt the difference. Not in birdsite though. Facebook and Instagram. The later is filled with sexist abuses also!!
@ajeeshrp7 Deleted facebook last year and haven't logged into instagram for 6 months. Maybe that's why it hits me twitter as I only used it. Don't even use whatsapp @Neeneen
@Vishsai @Neeneen I have some dependencies as of now, but I even I have plans. Instagram hatred can be reduced if I control myself from browsing through each and every comment! :|

@ajeeshrp7 @Vishsai I'm following far less Indians on birdsite and I use it now only to catch up on stuff that happens in the UK/US/Canada. But yeah, there's a difference!

Instagram isn't as toxic for me but it does add to FOMO. I haven't used FB in forever. But all of them have ads and I'm definitely feeling the difference of not having a product shoved into my face because they think they know I need it.

@Neeneen @Vishsai that's how I would also put it! :)

@Deepsealioness

In the interest of social justice, we need

1) info on social support groups on ground to help/ support weaker sections

2) access to justice, legal aid info

3) skilling workshops at no/ reasonable cost from NGOs info

4) alternative and innovative education support at ground level for weaker section

5) crowdsourced initiatives to support above initiatives and nutrition of kids

@Deepsealioness The need of the hour is affirmative and proactive action to empower the weaker section with a helping hand from empowered peers (through privilege, networking, information, knowledge etc)
