I was inspired for this painting by the three huskies of a close family friend. I feel that huskies, in their nature and habits, are very close to wolves living in the wild. What do you think?
In this work, I painted a winter night in Japan: a snow-covered Gasshō-zukuri house with warm lantern light glowing behind the shoji, and three wolves walking quietly through the moonlit snow. Their fur carries bluish-grey tones so that they almost blend into the night. The distant hills and frozen river reflect the soft light of the full moon, while the matte texture of gouache keeps the atmosphere calm and understated.
For me, the scene is about stillness, mutual awareness and the gentle way humans, animals and winter coexist without needing to say anything. Huskies seem to carry a similar presence: close to us, yet also close to the wild.
