I'm still reading #WhatTechnologyWants (highly praised by Mastodon darling Cory Doctorow, incidentally). Here's yet another intriguing excerpt:
"10,000 years ago, humans passed a tipping point where our ability to modify the biosphere exceeded the planet's ability to modify us. That [was] the beginning of the technium. We are at a second tipping point where the technium's ability to alter us exceeds our ability to alter the technium."

In February I quoted #WhatTechnologyWants, a book I'm working my way through. It'll likely be among my monthly book recommendations this year. Here's another quote from it: "1. In all times we find that most inventions [are] made independently by more than one person. "2. In ancient times we find independent timelines of technology on different continents converging upon a set order. "3. In modern times we find sequences of improvement that are difficult to stop, derail, or alter." 1 of 2
