My archery club has aquired a chronometer. I tried 3 bows with it. A 35lb longbow, a 65lb longbow and a 95lb warbow. Used the same arrows for each bow. Drew to the same anchor point, everything as identical as possible.

Each bow came out to the same speed plus or minus a couple of feet per second. That probably means the light weight bow is very springy and the warbow isn't very springy at all. Hmmmmm

We had 20 people on the shooting line this morning. Lots of new archers as their beginners course has just finished.

It was fantastic to do a bit of show and tell with my longbows and I shot at paper plates with two of the junior archers

Today has been a good day. The sun has been shining, but it's not as hot as last weekend.

In the morning, I worked on making some more #arrows at my #allotment while my wife picked 2kg of #blackberries this morning.

This afternoon was #archery with my #warbow. That really went well, and I can see what I need to do to shoot better.

In the evening, we went to see our #bees. Two happy, healthy colonies that are thriving. Maybe some #honey by the end of the month or beginning of next month.

Back to #work tomorrow. Hey, it's a living.

Had some fun with my #warbow for #archery this afternoon. Working hard on my technique when I draw to get myself into alignment. If I can get my whole body aligned with the target, life becomes a lot easier.

Really good session at the #archery range. Let a couple of people try my #longbow for size and shot my #warbow myself.

I was shooting really well too. I did the thing of showing them how I learned to shoot a powerful bow. The whole lean forward, stick your arse out and arch your back technique. My first shot after talking about it hit smack on the spider. I AM AN ARCHERY GOD!

#archery went really well yesterday. The 90lb #longbow / #warbow is a lot easier to draw now. I can hold it at full draw comfortably so I have more time to aim. Setting tight groups pretty much every end.

Having a masterclass of #warbow shooting from Joe Gibbs has been a game changer for my #archery

Split stance with your front leg forward and pointing at 45 degrees. Put your weight on your front foot. Arch your back, stick your bum out. Engage as many back muscles as you can when you draw, especially your lats. They are big, strong muscles. This isn't Joe, but it's a good example of his technique. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9d9kgQOJO0

You might look odd doing it. Recurve and compound archers will laugh at you. Let's see them try and draw a 90lb bow past their ear and shoot accurately.

How to shoot a heavy English longbow (warbow)

YouTube

#archery today was shooting my 90lb draw weight #warbow. I shot 5 dozen arrows at the length of the arrow plus 3 inches so that I could really work on my technique. No walking up and down to retrieve, just take one step forward.

It must have worked. When I decided to have a few ends at 30 yards I had two Robin Hoods in a dozen shots. Broke one plastic #nock and took a hell of a splinter off another #shaft.

Archery can be an expensive sport.

The #warbow shoot went really.well. I can see the sense of the skydraw, lean forward, arch your back and stick your bum out stance. It allows you to engage your lats and muscles all the way down your back to help you draw a heavy bow. It still looks silly. However, it's really hard to unlearn my normal draw cycle though.

I got to shoot some beautiful pacific yew bows that cost a fortune. I think the heaviest one I got to shoot was 120lbs.

The two instructors were excellent and there were some great people taking part too.

I would love to heave a really heavy draw weight long bow but there is nowhere for me to shoot it. Doing a sky draw would get you asked to leave any archery club. Also, even a glass lanimate bow is bloody expensive.

#Archery went well this morning. Some ends with my 90lb #warbow to start off then I swapped to my 45lb #longbow

Drawing the longbow felt sooo easy
