Vodafone says engineers are continuing to investigate the nationwide outage affecting broadband, 4G and 5G services.
Nationwide outage leaves thousands offline as Vodafone says network is now recovering
Monitoring site Downdetector recorded more than 130,000 reports of problems from around 2.30pm on Monday (13 October), with users unable to get online via Wi‑Fi or mobile data. Many also reported being unable to access Vodafone’s own website or app.
The disruption appears to be nationwide, with reports from Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Customers have described “total blackouts” of service, leaving many working from home unable to connect.
According to Vodafone’s website, the company has more than 18 million UK customers, including nearly 700,000 home broadband users.
Other providers also affected
The outage comes amid wider reports of connectivity issues at other major providers, including BT, Sky, Virgin Media, EE, O2 and Voxi. Some users also flagged problems with messaging apps such as WhatsApp.
It is not yet clear whether the issues are linked to a single underlying fault in the UK’s internet backbone infrastructure.
Vodafone response
Vodafone has not yet issued a detailed explanation for the outage. The company has confirmed it is aware of the problem and engineers are investigating. No timeline has been given for when services will be restored.
Local impact
In South West Wales, customers in Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Llanelli and across Carmarthenshire have reported being unable to connect. Some have resorted to tethering via other mobile networks to stay online.
