"combinatory of the time" (p.31) "detournement" "...the ancient, feudal, despotic, capitalist, and #vectoralist modes of production may be designated as epochs marking the extension of the exploitation of nature by social-technical forms of increasing abstraction." #Wark proposes that history will not end as #Marx foretold and that there is more to come. ---Capital is Dead

@Antanicus For sure.

But it's also an edge case in which the exercise of new forms of power are being tested by concentrated #vectoralist institutions.

That it's generating broad vague uneasiness in spite of the the repugnant nature of the target attests to the underlying power dynamics the incident reveals.

"While the #capitalist class provides resources & encouragement for the nascent hacker class, it's under the condition of subordination to commodification. When the #Vectoralist class dominates, it frees #theHack for the production of many kinds of useless production, and is thus often seen as an ally of the hacker class. The Vectoralist class act only out of self interest, for they extract their margin from the commodification ... of the production of production."

-M. Wark, A #Hacker Manifesto

A very interesting take on the deeply problematic business model (#twitter #facebook, etc.) that both the #Mastodon project and the wider #platformcoop movement are seeking to tackle:

"#Vectoralist platform owners do not only advertise to their users, they also exploit the massive flows of raw data which appear via the infrastructures they control -- users hemorrhage data about themselves and their interrelations."
