nächtliche Ballonlandung in der Homezone (ca. 4km Luftline vom Space). Stapfen durch das Unterholz, Bäumchen-Schütteln und Herumstochern mit diversen Angelgeräten, bis die Wettersonde geborgen war.

Sunday weather was clear and crispy. Perfect time to go out for a walk...

to collect some radiosondes to be repurposed! All 3 were located a 10-minute drive from each other, still fresh after landing less than a day before :)

Last night midnight radiosonde (V1630925) in Finland had pretty abnormal ascent/descent speeds. It went up much slower than normally (probably wet or under-fill) and came down even slower most of the flight, about -2m/s. Our club receiver got first packet at elevation 0deg and last packet at -0.4 deg (334km) which is wayyy behind the radio horizon. #radiosonde #sonde #vaisala #weatherballoon

Figured it's finally time to activate this account (and not post to that other service only), so the best way to start is with some #amateurradio hacking:

This #Graw DFM-17 #radiosonde has learned some new tricks and it chirps CW (morse) and Horus 4FSK modulations on the 70cm ham radio band. This is a work-in-progress port of my #RS41ng radiosonde firmware, as the DFM hardware is very similar to #Vaisala #RS41.

Next up is #APRS + testing, so soon you'll be able to repurpose your #DFM17 sondes!

Looks like we had 85 summer trainees this summer. From what I experience, the number is limited by mentors, and it makes me kind of happy to have a steady annual influx of people getting their experiences with #Vaisala. There is a need of constant training positions, not only summertimes, and every company should pitch in to training next generations of professionals doing the work.
