@janeishly

I've bought a couple of #Fossibot batteries, F1200 and F2400.

Their website is awful and they shipped them with #UPS, which was awful.

I was hoping to monitor the batteries from #HomeAssistant, but the F1200 doesn't have any remote connections, and the F2400 has wifi, but that stopped working after a while.

Apart from that, they're working fine as batteries so far, and have been useful during power outages.

Well, the F2400 is supposed to be able to charge from mains and solar panel simultaneously, but that's not working either. I'm now trying to build an automation to do the switching based on solar panel voltage and spot price.

Before you continue

This article says that people recreated the pilot conversation from a recent #UPS cargo #plane_crash, from the #spectrogram of the #CVR data, that was present in the #NTSB #accident_investigation report.

But why do all of them focus on the use of #AI? Spectrograms can be readily converted back to #audio if you know how to process it. It's just that nobody thought about it before. Is this an #advertisement for AI? Can't we achieve anything without AI anymore?

AI Was Used to Recreate the Voices of Dead Pilots. The NTSB Responded by Locking Down Its Database. - Fire ...

Last year, a UPS cargo plane went down in Louisville, Kentucky. The crew didn't survive. The NTSB opened an investigation, as it does with every major crash, and added the case files to its public docket system, as it also does. Transcripts, data, findings, all of it accessible to anyone who wanted to look. What nobody thought about was the spectrogram. A spectrogram is a visual representation of sound. It takes audio signals, breaks them down into frequencies, and renders them as an image. The NTSB included one in the Flight 2976 docket because federal law prohibits it from releasing actual cockpit voice recordings. The spectrogram felt like a reasonable middle ground, you could see that audio existed without being able to hear it. Then Scott Manley, a YouTuber with a background in physics, pointed out on X that spectrograms encode enough data to work backwards from. The image wasn't just a picture of sound. It contained the sound. People ran with it. Using AI tools, they took the spectrogram and the publicly available transcript and reconstructed approximations of what the cockpit voice recorder actually captured. The voices of two pilots who died in that crash started circulating online. The NTSB shut its entire public docket system down.

The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a two‑day fact‑finding hearing on the deadly November crash of UPS Flight 2976, a McDonnell Douglas MD‑11 cargo plane that fell just 30 feet after takeoff from Louisville’s Muhammad Ali International Airport, killing all three pilots and twelve other occupants; investigators are focusing on a cracked spherical bearing in the engine‑mount system—a defect Boeing warned about in 2011 but initially deemed non‑critical—while the FAA had grounded all MD‑11s until Boeing issued new inspection and repair instructions, after which FedEx has begun returning its MD‑11s to service but UPS has decided to retire its entire MD‑11 fleet in favor of newer Boeing 767 aircraft.

UPS Cargo Plane Crash in Louisville Kills 15 After Engine Detachment

A UPS cargo plane crashed in Louisville, Kentucky, last November after one of its engines separated during takeoff, killing 15 people, including three aboard and 12 on the ground. Newly released video, shown at a federal investigative hearing, captures the moment the engine tore off the Boeing MD-11F, causing a massive fireball as the plane continued to climb briefly before crashing. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported that fatigue cracks in the left wing’s pylon caused the engine to detach. Two additional people on the ground sustained serious injuries, and 21 others suffered minor injuries. The NTSB emphasized its commitment to understanding the cause of the accident to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The FAA completed an extensive review of the plane model, which has since resumed flying. Officials have stressed the importance of ongoing investigations and safety measures following the catastrophic accident.
