I've finally seen and touched all the Great Lakes with a visit to Lake Superior today! I didn't put my feet in because the shore was too rocky and it was cold, but I put a hand in the water at least.
Hopefully, we can make another trip out to see it some more. We had considered visiting the Canadian side briefly, but didn't want to deal with crossing the border for a day trip. Maybe a northern Ontario trip will be in the cards next year.
Yet…brick-&-mortar facilities still account for about 80% of clinician-provided #abortions….
Hannah Harriman, a #Marquette County #Health Dept #nurse who previously spent 12 yrs working for #PlannedParenthood of Marquette, is skeptical of any suggestion that #telehealth can replace a rural brick-&-mortar #clinic. "I say that those people have never spent any time in the UP," she said, referring to the #UpperPeninsula.
Many clinics that provide #abortion are closing, even where it’s still #legal
#PlannedParenthood of #Michigan is giving up on 4 of its #health centers, citing #financial challenges.
Including the one in #Marquette, the only clinic that provided abortion in the vast… #UpperPeninsula. For the ~1,100 patients who visited the clinic each year for anything from #cancer screenings to #contraception implants, the next-closest Planned Parenthood will now be a ~5-hr drive south.
Happy #Thursday afternoon from the #Northland.
We are waiting for a #storm system from the west to swing through the region with its #rain #showers.
Meanwhile, showers from a storm system to our southeast is impacting some of us in northwest #Wisconsin and the #UpperPeninsula.
We will all see showers by tonight.
So there is construction coming into our cabin from both of the normal ways we take so we had to take the back, BACK way down dirt roads and seasonal roads (if my husband hadn't been with me I would be lost in the woods right now). Yeah. An adventure in the EUP. Did see a blue heron take off from a pond in the middle of nowhere though so there's that.
4 P.M. #RADAR UPDATE:
A line of #showers with a few possible #thunderstorms continue to push east through northwest #Wisconsin and towards the #UpperPeninsula.
A brief #downpour and gust of #wind are the additional dangers along with any #lightning.
NORTHLAND FORECAST FOR APRIL 2, 2025:

#Snowfall totals will be lower in northwest #Wisconsin and the #UpperPeninsula as the forecasted movement of the #storm system will allow #rain, #freezing rain, and #sleet to mix in with #snow #showers Wednesday.
A #thunderstorm is also not out of the question.
This was at the Mackinac Bridge at about 7:30 this morning. They closed the bridge due to falling ice shortly after we crossed. I-75 from St. Ignace down to about Grayling was wrecked- thousands of trees down. Didn't even get off the expressway because most places have no power.
