Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez switches her vote to “nay” on Republicans’ anti-voter legislation

"Vote-by-mail is the gold standard in election security, and the SAVE America Act would undermine our state’s longstanding elections process by forcing Washingtonians to jump through nonsensical bureaucratic hoops in order to mail in their ballot," MGP said.

The American experiment: Who gets to vote? A brief history of the struggle for suffrage in the United States

For much of America's history, participation in elections has been restricted - first to wealthy white men who owned property, then to white men, and then to men. It has only been in more recent decades that every citizen at or over the age of majority has had the legal right to vote.

Donald Trump redeclares war on free and fair elections in America with another blatantly unconstitutional order

Trump's order attempts to invalidate ballots returned through the mail that aren't received by Election Day, in violation of Washington and Oregon State law, and force states to throw out ballots if voters cannot jump through hoops to prove their citizenship.

@[email protected] Isn't it clear as #mastosunDay now, that "lobbying" has practically become a euphemism for legalized bribery? And, that #bigmoney lobbies have finally succeeded in gaming #US presidential #politics? If so, it probably comes as no surprise to see "legalized" extortion, corruption, etc shenanigans during tRump2.0, ain't it? The existential question imho is: when and how the US comes back to true #universalsuffrage, ungamed by $$$? Maybe not in my lifetime, sadly.🤔

The right to recall elected officials in #Taiwan is enshrined in Articles 17 & 133 of e Constitution, w the relevant mechanisms to recall est'd in 1975.. 2014 Sunflower Movement spurred a revision in 2016, substantially reducing req'mts for proposal submission, signature collection & final approval of recall petitions"

This is an excellent short video on suffrage in the UK. If you've got someone who can't be bothered to vote, show them this.

#UniversalSuffrage is not a useful metric. People in many countries can be drafted into the military, be subject to capital punishment, enter into contracts, and/or own land in their own name yet still not be allowed to vote.

Democracy appears to develop organically in insular human communities; we do not have an origin point. The earliest proven I know of is 6th centrury BCE, Vaishali, India.

💡️ Another PRC poster idea: Launch a large-scale advertising campaign in all major cities featuring large posters simply reprinting the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. ('ratified' by the CCP/PRC)

incl.

「Article 19
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

Article 21
Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives.
Everyone has the right of equal access to public service in his country.
The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections
which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures.」

🔹Would the CCP have any actual arguments against publication of UN declaration the regime itself has ratified? 🤔

🔹Would the never-elected regime consider merely informing its subjects about the UN document to trigger the *criminal* charge of "picking quarrels and making trouble"... 🤷🏻‍♂️
