salix sericea (@Ripple13216)The biggest effort in turning a "nice bougie lawn" into an exuberant food, flowers, and native plants patch of dirt has been the eradication of Bermuda grass.
No herbicides, so cardboard and digging were the mainstays for a few years.
Then we got the chickens, and it became much easier. One round of digging followed by keeping the birds there for a year has worked well.
They are now working on the next section of the yard.
