Still room for not so perfect architecture in a town like Stavanger.

A photo showing the changing face of Stavanger. From small (and not so small) houses to block of flats. But, still quite green, and with recreational spots, like a small man made lake, and a small ball playground. And a huge parking area.
The photo is from last autumn.

The strange story of the Swiss houses in Norway ...

I must admit I don't like the dead window panes, but I love that they have used old, traditional stone roof - a common feature here at Vestlandet because of the wind. It probably should have been a national treasure and saved.

Stavanger is a sneaky town. It was built on herring over some decades two centuries ago, and at the same time, also built a merchant class. Because someone had to organize, right?
After the herring had gone, eh, been eaten, Stavanger became the canning town - until the Americans discovered oil and gas outside the coastline in the 1960ies.

Does rich Stavanger have poor areas? Yes, it has. Are there class differences in Stavanger? Yes, it is. But, it is still one of the most equal towns in Norway, the riches are fairly distributed.

Modern housing area in Stavanger. Everyone wants to live along the fjords. With a view to the islands just a short ferry journey or a tunnel away.

It looks very idyllic, right? Once upon a time these were small wooden buildings for working people. People working at the saw mill, the fish factories, the shops, driving the bus and steering the ferries … you get it.
The buildings are enlarged with time, but still kept to a certain style of horizontal boarding, they are kept low, painted white and the alley is kept narrow. And they are also hugely expensive.
It is very typical of the olden Stavanger even though these are around the factory area at the East and port side.

Er på #Levanger i dag. Byen har ei fin verneverdig trehusbebyggelse. Dette er ikke det flotteste, men er den siste autentiske arbeiderboligen i byen. Emilies hus. Det er åpent for publikum. #trehus
