Varna, Bulgaria. 9 years ago. I lived at a tourist resort a few miles from the city, but I spent most of the time in Varna. Hot summer days with a scorching sun; I wore a shawl so I wouldn't burn my head or shoulders. Lots of homeless dogs roaming the streets. The locals put out water for them. Many dilapidated houses but also many very beautiful ones, I'm gonna see if I can find some photos of those. Very friendly people and great food. I got to practice some Bulgarian. My knowledge of Russian helped with reading. I did lots of swimming in the ocean, the waves were so high I felt like I was dancing on them.

I want to go back one day since it's a historically important city and I didn't get to see any of the remains from ye olden days. My travel company wasn't too interested in such things and I honestly just wanted a break from the ordinary.
