Having attempted to cover my first medical conference (#TLM22) using both Mastodon & Twitter, I can see the former isn't suited to this type of live coverage. Too slow & too cumbersome. On the other hand, Twitter remains fine for this. You can follow conference hashtags & not see any hint of politics, hate speech, or Musk's latest antics. It requires extra "infrastructure" cost (mainly my time) to use multiple platforms, but I think I'll stick with "different tools for different jobs."
Mainstream media & Twitter pundits may have moved on from this summer's mystery #PediatricHepatitis outbreak, but some of us are still paying attention. International repository collected data on 151 cases from 25 counties through 10/28/22. Cases peaked in May-June. About 3% of the children were immunocompromised, 10% (15 kids) were known to have had SARS-CoV-2 in past year, only 13% (20 kids) had received COVID vaccines (many were too young to be eligible). #LiverMtg22 #TLM22
