The Teia dos Povos Seed Network and the Guarani and Kaiowá community carried out a collective planting of native corn. The action was a direct response to brutality: in a recent attack, state forces not only assaulted the people, but also buried and destroyed all planting tools with tractors, attempting to sabotage their autonomy. Prevented from cultivating with hoes, they used sharp sticks and their own hands to break the ground.
In this context, leader Erileide Domingues shares the wisdom that guides her people. She explains that caring for seeds is like caring for a life, like a child. Her words reveal a deeper meaning: “seeds... are the birth of resistance.” Creole and native seeds are a principle for the Web of Peoples, they are what connects the struggle, it is not possible to walk the path to food autonomy without seed autonomy.
Planting in the school area also symbolizes pedagogical autonomy, teaching new generations that everything is already here to transform the world. Erileide ends her speech by thanking relatives from different peoples, allies, and peasants who are present.
