Since I moved to the Fediverse, I am SOO missing Kevin Anderson's voice, clear, succinct and without any decadent or lazy normalcy-bias so common in other cli-sci voices on Twitter.
Thanks to @simon_on_energy
for sharing Kevin's commentary on #IPCC #AR6 #SynthesisReport here. https://theconversation.com/ipccs-conservative-nature-masks-true-scale-of-action-needed-to-avert-catastrophic-climate-change-202287
He says "Smoke and mirrors" to the report's "early 2050s" for zero CO2, and Kevin is of course right.
How very disturbing: such a huge lie from the international body which should be communicating the whole truth, and nothing but the truth!! Bah!
He also rightly points to the #IAM community as culprits â academics spreading 'denial almost as bad as Exxon'.
Love Anderson's finishing line: "The question now is, will we high-consuming few make (voluntarily or by force) the fundamental changes needed for decarbonisation in a timely and organised manner? Or will we fight to maintain our privileges and let the rapidly changing climate do it, chaotically and brutally, for us?"
More evidence of tampering with the #IPCC #SynthesisReport.
I'm wondering if this could be grounds for legal action.
"China, the U.S. and Saudi Arabia are among countries that significantly altered a United Nations document that will shape global climate policy for years to come, according to an account of international negotiations preceding its release."
âIn short, our world needs climate action on all fronts â everything, everywhere, all at once,â says UN secretary general Antonio Guterres at launch of final report by Intergovermental Panel on Climate Change
Also, if youâre feeling surprised or a bit doomer-y today because of this latest report, I have reading/listening/watching recommendations.
One that helps me to return to from time to time is a (somewhat difficult, but a helpful kind of difficult I think) video from Sim Kern:

Looks like we DDoSâd the IPCCâs synthesis report, which is a bit funny given that this isnât exactly groundbreaking science. Weâve known, or at least should have, for a a while now.
The #AR6 #SynthesisReport is out today:
"Governments gave their blessing on Sunday to a major new UN report on #ClimateChange, after approval was held up by a battle between rich and developing countries over #emissions targets and financial aid to vulnerable nations.
The UN plans to publish the report at a news conference this [European] afternoon.

People who say the #IPCC soft-pedals the #ClimateCrisis may have read only the #SynthesisReport
"It puts the thousands of pages of science into a shorter format, which is further condensed into a âsummary for policymakersâ, a scientific underpinning for global climate action. It is written by #scientists but #haggled over by representatives of the UNâs nearly 200 governments, so some argue it is subject to #WateringDown by regimes that do not like its messages."
"On Monday, March 20, the #IPCC will be publicly releasing a report synthesizing the latest climate science, the culmination of its sixth assessment cycle."
This is the #SynthesisReport summarising the three working group reports published in the past two years. While the latter are written by scientists, the final form of the synthesis report shows in the influence of country representatives. (For the real scoop, read the Working Group reports).
