Today, marks the final day of the 63rd session of UNCOPUOS Scientific and Technical Subcommittee in Vienna. This time, I joined the German delegation as an expert for space sustainability and had the pleasure to give a statement on the latest activities at @DLR Space Agency wrt. Dark and Quiet Skies.

The #SMPAG meeting was concluded this morning, the next days are dedicated, for me, to the use of nuclear power sources #NPS in outer space. With the planned return to the moon, nuclear batteries and even lunar reactors receive more attention again. Participation was seldom that broad before. #UN #COPUOS #STSC #space

Already on Monday, the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee started its 2026 session. This morning, the Space Mission Planning Advisory Group started its meeting. At #SMPAG, Space Agencies meet and discuss planetary defence, i. e. how to react in case a Near-Earth Object threatens to hit our planet. Zeit nach Hause zu fahren. Fast zwei Wochen in Wien sind rum, voll mit Diskussionen über #Nachhaltigkeit im #Weltraum, Asteroidenabwehr #SMPAG, Weltraumverkehr #STM #STC und zuletzt Nuklearenergiequellen. #NPS Dazwischen dann letzten Montag auch eine Veranstaltung mit Prada und einem Astronauten. Bis Freitag tagt der #STSC noch, diskutiert wird z. B. über den Schutz des Nachthimmels vor Beeinträchtigungen durch Satelliten (dark and quiet skies) #DQS

Heute startet der Wissenschaftlich-Technische Unterausschuss des UN-Weltraumausschusses in Wien. Auf der Agenda stehen u. a. Nachhaltigkeit von Weltraumaktivitäten, Schutz der Astronomie, Asteroidenabwehr und Einsatz von Nuklearenergiequellen im All.
