Besides e-bikes being more efficient than food energy, the purchase of acoustic bikes does not need to be subsidized in the same way as e-bikes. The infrastructure and terrain where e-bikes aren't necessary should already be enough enticement for people to ride the bikes they already have, if we would do more to get cars out of the way and connect contiguous low-stress bikeway networks, largely with bus lanes, protected bike lanes, and other re-allocations instead of four car lanes. #stroads

#PaintIsNotProtection and the overall neglect of the safety and quality of bike infrastructure (always designed to make ample room for cars) is the systemic reason people keep driving, keep turning the crank on the war machine every day. And it's also the one thing that leaders can easily change to influence behavior. Biking is about as fast as driving for short trips, given decently effective bike infrastructure where you can average 15-20mph. Granted, much of the bike infrastructure is not safe or even okay at those speeds, and half the time it ends into multiple wide high-speed car lanes where you just get to pick one and call it your own. The resultant amount of time spent on politics probably works out to roughly: it would have been faster to walk (in the ditch.) #stroads #climateAction #transportation
