arguing against the environmental impact of e-bikes by the carbon footprint of the electricity they consume lololol
Besides e-bikes being more efficient than food energy, the purchase of acoustic bikes does not need to be subsidized in the same way as e-bikes. The infrastructure and terrain where e-bikes aren't necessary should already be enough enticement for people to ride the bikes they already have, if we would do more to get cars out of the way and connect contiguous low-stress bikeway networks, largely with bus lanes, protected bike lanes, and other re-allocations instead of four car lanes. #stroads
Govt policy to help people buy e-bikes is a better use of public funds than the default status-quo, which is to subsidize driving and burning fossil fuels. So, there's probably more money and sprinkling around some free acoustic bikes could also be a good idea. Would the money do more when put toward acoustic bikes, in terms of taking cars off of the road? I kinda doubt it.
