Besides e-bikes being more efficient than food energy, the purchase of acoustic bikes does not need to be subsidized in the same way as e-bikes. The infrastructure and terrain where e-bikes aren't necessary should already be enough enticement for people to ride the bikes they already have, if we would do more to get cars out of the way and connect contiguous low-stress bikeway networks, largely with bus lanes, protected bike lanes, and other re-allocations instead of four car lanes.
