Bright pink crabapples. This tree was so odd: the crabapples were growing on short spurs all over the branches, so that it looked like a bright pink knobby mossy hedgehog tree. I couldn't get a good shot at it, but maybe I'll try again.

I do not understand why folks would plant #HorseChestnuts as #StreetTrees. If we are going to have spikey projectiles falling on people's heads, could we at least choose the non-poisonous variety?

Urban heat relief: Trees need water and space to maximize cooling, study finds

Urban trees are often seen as natural allies in fighting summer heat waves. But how much they actually help to cool their surroundings depends heavily on how moist the soil is. This is the main finding of a new study led by environmental engineers at ETH Zurich and Eawag published in npj Urban Sustainability, which investigated several urban neighborhoods in Zurich.
