Some of the weirdest things are Sayings. One of my first memories was walking around the German countryside. I'm a military brat. When I moved to Germany it wasn't the first time I lived here. But it's hilly in Rheinland-Pfalz. The state where we lived. Everything is green and beautiful but my father put a gutteral horror in me that day.

"Keep you eyes peeled",

He said. I was horrified. Was I to peel my eyes like Tuna Cans? Grab the potato peelers and go at it?! I was so confused. I was like 3 or 4 and the vision of what he asked makes it my first and most powerful memory.

Why do we use colloquialisms? Often they make no sense. "None of my business" in German is "Das ist nicht mein Bier". "There's more than one way to skin a cat" like wtf?! What is language even? It's so confusing whenever you give it too much thought.
