Manzara by The Sea Ensemble, released on Red Record in 1977.

Eclectic, world music-influenced free jazz group the Sea Ensemble was a husband-and-wife team of bassist-clarinetist Donald Rafael Garrett and pianist-cellist-flutist Zusaan Kali Fasteau. Their collaboration began in 1971 in the city where they met, San Francisco. The duo began their world touring and traveling one year later, visiting and performing in many European, Eastern European, and African countries and, at one point, touring with Archie Shepp. Recordings of the Sea Ensemble include the 1976 ESP release We Move Together and Memoirs of a Dream, a reissue on Fasteau's Flying Note label. Jay Oliver and Glenn Spearman were also members of the Sea Ensemble for nearly a year. ~ Joslyn Layne

#NowPlaying the equivalent of a meditation (including being inexplicably twatted by a Zen master with a Keisaku hitting stick). When it comes to #spiritualjazz, I prefer Sanders to Coltrane's post-Love Supreme 'tortured seeking', despite Sanders playing on those JC recordings too.

Two Is One is an album by American saxophonist Charles Rouse recorded in 1974 and released on the Strata-East label.

The authors of The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings called the music "pretty startling," and commented: "It's a difficult performance to locate within Rouse's overall output, but there is no denying its effectiveness."

A writer for Billboard remarked: "this is an appreciated release and shows another side of Rouse, as it presents him in a funky feeling."

Guitarist Jeff Parker wrote: "This album introduced me to Strata-East Records, and I've been... following the label and collecting the records ever since." - Wikipedia

Rhythmatism by Steve Reid, released on Mustevic Sound Records in 1976.

Drummer and composer extraordinaire Steve Reid’s ‘Rhythmatism’ is one of his deepest and most radical of albums of all time and features some of the heaviest jazz players - Arthur Blythe AKA Black Arthur, Charles Tyler, David Wertman and others. The album was originally released on Reid’s own Mustevic Sound label in 1976.

Reid was born in the South Bronx and grew up in Queens, New York. He played in the house band at Harlem's Apollo Theatre, accompanying James Brown as well as playing in Sun Ra’s Arkestra...He began his career as a teenager in the 1960s as a drummer at Motown when he played on Martha and The Vandellas’ ‘Heatwave’ (aged 14).

At the end of the 1960s Reid was sentenced to four years in jail as a conscientious objector of the Vietnam war... - Phonica Records

Prelude by John Stubblefield, released on Storyville in 1977.

Hardly a prelude -- as the album's a fully-formed, fully-stated set right from the start -- easily one of the best moments ever for reedman John Stubblefield -- and an overlooked spiritual classic from the 70s! There's a vibe here that rivals the Strata East scene at their best -- no surprise, given that in addition to Stubblefield on tenor and soprano sax, the record also features Cecil Bridgewater on trumpet, Onaje Allen Gumbs on keyboards, Cecil McBee on bass, Joe Chambers on drums, and Mtume on percussion! The approach is quite different than the usual Storyville record of the 70s -- with long-spun tracks all composed by members of the group -- wonderful tunes that really give John a great chance to show the full range of his talents...- Dusty Groove

Reflections In The Sea Of Nurnen by Doug Hammond & David Durrah, released on Tribe in 1975

Reflections In The Sea Of Nurnen is the masterpiece debut release from drummer, percussionist and vocalist Doug Hammond in collaboration with keyboardist David Durrah, who is known for his session work for Black Jazz and Tribe Records. Originally planned for issue on Strata-East, Hammond instead took the record to Phil Ranelin and Wendell Harrison’s Detroit-based Tribe Records. Hammond’s velvet smooth vocal shimmers on the soul-jazz number “Wake Up Brothers” and the poetry-laced “Moves,” while Durrah’s Fender Rhodes and Moog synthesizer add a cosmic, avant-garde flavor to record with the instrumental pieces “Reflections” and “Space I + II.”... - In Sheep's Clothing Hi Fi
