This is me this morning as I broke though the AM fog and worked with my Alexa to set up a routine to remind me to research assistive technology.

Given my name I understand where the confusion comes from though for people with speech impediments working with the voice recognition of AI digital assistants can be frustrating hence the need for alternative input methods such as a computer interface or eye control technology for those with impaired mobility.

The need for accessing these alternative means of inputing commands or making corrections should be taken into account when designing AI ditial assistants.

And yes, I get the irony of creating AI slop art to point out an issue with AI digital assistants 😉

I wanna share a story about people having a bad day. Because right now that's more common than it's ever been and some of us need a reminder to just be kind to ourselves.

I have a speech impediment. It's a lifelong thing and it confuses a lot of people when they meet me, mainly because I work so hard to keep it under control. I even have a YouTube channel because that's the level of self-tormenting I subject myself to these days. It has helped me learn to control my speech better.

But it's hard work. Seriously hard work. My brain is working triple time to search of better words, better neural paths, better ways to get words out fast and get myself out of the line-light. Every conversation is immense effort to make myself appear semi normal.

So how bad can it be? On a bad day I cannot even say my name. Yesterday was a bad day.

Some folks stutter which can include st-st-stammering as well as pauses and other tricks like humming or making an mmm sound to bounce onto a word.

The movie The King's Speech, about a stammering world leader, is a decent source of info and ideally empathy for stutterers.
