For those still using them for NAS or for Apple Time Machine, there’s a distinct possibility that Apple AirPort Time Capsule NAS devices may become incompatible with macOS after macOS 26.

This given the end of AFP support in macOS 15.5, and given the immense insecurity of SMBv1.

Sales of the last Time Capsule 802.11ac model ended in 2018.

With macOS 15.5: “AFP client is deprecated in the current version and will be removed in a future version of macOS. We encourage users to explore alternatives and migrate their workflows before upgrading to the version which removes support for the AFP client.”

Local preference is Synology NAS, though other options exist including TrueNAS. It’s a little early in a new product line for my preference, but Ubiquiti UNAS Pro also supports Time Machine.
