@cazabon Btw, you might enjoy the “What About Bunny” videos on YouTube or Instagram. She’s a dog who’s been trained to use “talking” buttons to communicate. I can’t remember how many buttons she now uses, but it’s more than 50. Our 9-yr-old rescue, Roxie, is learning to use those buttons, but she’s only doing 2 right now (“go out” and “walk”). 😊

@cazabon I’d like to hear other’s stories about #SmartAnimals. #Dogs #Cats #Horses #Animals

Most of my pets have had average intelligence, so I don’t have many stories. My GSD, Maya, also tried turning round doorknobs w/ her nose in an attempt to open doors. The stable owner couldn’t lock the horse, Max, in his stall (in case of fire), so she tried different fasteners, combinations, one hi & one low, etc. She finally added a bolt to the very bottom of his door that he couldn’t reach.

@athelas1001 This is a nice counterpoint to #DumbPets things I posted.

I remember reading years ago a long-time zoo employee talked about the escape artists. Along with the ones you might expect - primates, elephants - he specifically mentioned horses as being very, very good at letting themselves out of any enclosure. I was dumbfounded - the only real fine manipulators they have are their lips and tongue!

I would be fascinated to hear any stories you might share.

We had a dog named Maya. We had to lock the storm door because Maya figured out how to use the handle to open it. If we packed for any kind of trip, she’d check to see if her bag was also being packed. If not, she’d put her toys & balls in our bags.

A horse at our stables was an escape artist & beat every type of fasteners on his door. He’d not only let himself out but would also open the stall doors for the other 20+ horses.
