What a fabulous day out at WWT Slimbridge with two of the Exeter Daves; highlights were the White-spotted Bluethroat, Temminck's Stint, male Garganey and Ruff. Happy days.

Herring gull and coot chick.
When I was at #slimbridge a few weeks ago, I witnessed a herring gull swoop down onto a coot's nest and pluck out a chick. It then carried off the baby coot and stopped in front of a group of visitors, myself included and swallowed the chick. It was very sad to watch, but unfortunately chicks are frequently predated by a variety of animals.

Good supporting cast including these Barnacle Goose having a squabble ..... should have dubbed the Benny Hill βChaseβ music onβ¦

One of my favourite photographs from 2016- this one was taken at Slimbridge Wetland Centre. The swan pictured here is a juvenile, a cygnet, that's why the feathering is grey rather than white.
