Ended Monday and welcomed Tuesday after a swim with Friends by Oregon, released on Vanguard in 1977.

Oregon open the door for a few friends to appear on the album – and in doing so, they also open themselves up as well – in a shifting set of tracks that sometimes features different groupings of the core musicians! The guests here are Bennie Wallace on tenor, Larry Karush on piano, and David Earl Johnson on congas and timbales – and the tracks move from longer to shorter, quintet to duo performances – all showing different aspects of the guitars of Ralph Towner, reeds of Paul McCandless, bass of Glen Moore, and sitar and percussion of Colin Walcott. Karush and Moore duet on piano on the beautiful "Love Over Time", Wallace and Walcott mix sitar and tenor on "First Thing In The Morning" - Dusty Groove

An diesem Wochenende gibt es ein musikalisches Kontrastprogramm.
Heute wurde es meditativ…

Ich habe im Pierre Boulez Saal Berlin
SHUJAAT KHAN & ENSEMBLE gehört.

Sitar - Tabla - Tabla - Mridangam

Ich finde ja, dass die Sitar eines der schönsten Instrumente ist. Und ihr Klang versetzt mich schon nach kurzer Zeit in einen schwebenden Zustand.
Was für ein berauschendes Konzert. Standing ovations.

Ended Monday and welcomed Tuesday after a swim with Sufi by Al Gromer Khan, released oN new Earth Records in 2000.

Review by Jim Brenholts

Al Gromer Khan (aka Aloysius Gromer) has built many soundscapes from his cross-cultural virtuosity. For Sufi, he relies heavily on Indian acoustic instruments and contemporary electronics. The CD is based on the intense poetry of the Sufi and the purity of their spirituality. Khan was deeply influenced by the teachings of Ustad Vilayat Khan and his demonstration of how a small fragment of music begets new realities. He embraces Sufism that works from direct experiences and allows it to affect his music -- deeply. This gentle soundscape is very subtle. The atmospheres are vacuous and large; Al Gromer Khan's sound design is flawless. The music builds and collapses upon itself continuously...

Flutes Libres by Jean Cohen-Solal, released in 1972 on Daphny as part of their Musiques Et Instruments Insolites series.

"Jean Cohen-Solal studied flute from all angles, and became one of the great French virtuosi, along with Michel Edelin who at the time was with Triode. This was a period (1972) when flutists were very popular with the public, most of whom had been influenced by Roland Kirk, including Ian Anderson in Jethro Tull. Whereas Jean Cohen-Solal tells a different story, richer and centred on the instrument itself, using the magic (yes, that again) of overdubs.

Perhaps Paul Horn rather than Roland Kirk could be an influence, but stripped of a classical background which was too audible and a tendency for easy listening. In fact, in terms of comparison, "open music" by Bob Downes would be the closest to the electroacoustic experiments of Jean Cohen-Solal..."
