This is the Saro #Aria from the Anoush #Opera by Armen Tigranian, with Albert Vardanyan on #shvi. The shvi is a fairly simple fipple #flute from #Armenia ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ฒ; typically with 8 holes and the front and 1 thumb hole. However, the lowest one serves only as a resonance hole.
Anoush is a 5-act opera composed in 1912, but first performed in 1935 at the Armenia National Opera. The opera tells a #tragic #love #story about Anoush falling in love with Saro, a #shepherd. Doing a Wedding, Saro and Mossy, Anoush's brother, compete in a friendly wrestling match, but Saro pins Mossy down instead of honourably letting the match end in a draw. Mossy swears vengance, and Anoush and Saro have to flee. Returning to the village some time later in the hope of reconsiliation, Mossy finds Saro and shoots him dead, which then results in Anoush losing her sanity and throwing herself off a cliff.
Definitely no happy ending for anyone in here.
