Mayor Eric Adams' trade-in program for unsafe e-bikes misses the mark, ignoring the real issue: unchecked growth and lax regulation of the e-bike delivery industry. Legalized in 2020, these often-dangerous e-bikes have led to many accidents and fires. Instead of superficial fixes, NYC needs stringent licensing, mandatory insurance, and better battery storage laws to ensure public safety and protect vulnerable workers.
