I love this. Our #language holds SO much power! It's a huge part of what pushes this little planet around and informs all of our thoughts and feelings in ways most people don't realize.
I had a conversation with a friend a few months ago about how "#Rooibos" is actually the Dutch naming for the south African tea which is known and enjoyed by so many people. Disturbingly enough - when I did some research I could not locate the local naming of this very plant - and could only find it by the Dutch naming or by "red bush tea" as it's also translated in English. That the indigenous naming for this globally-known plant cannot be found with even a quick internet search is so very telling of the way our perception is controlled by those in power. Which is more often than not people with white European ancestry that have colonized the world around us. (Continued in thread 1/2)
