This week I read "Daughter of the Empire" by Raymond E Feist and Janny Wurts. It's a political fantasy from 1987. Overall, I found it surprisingly good.

Surprisingly because I really didn't like Feist's "Magician" - I found it trope ridden and dull.

ICYMI: Book Review - AVP: Rift War 👽 📘

Aliens vs. Predators: Rift War is a lore-rich, engaging story with plenty for fans to love.

Oh gods, another #Riftwar Cycle book from Feist.

I was very unhappy when he tied his Firemane #books into the Riftwar mythos. They weren't great book, just fine. But there was at least some interesting politics and worldbuilding in there. Then all that got sidelined as the larger Riftwar cycle was shoehorned in.

Magician's End was an adequate end to a formerly great series that overstayed its welcome. This undoes even that faint praise.

If I, of all readers, don't want more Riftwar; who does?

We're back today for Bk 2 of the Riftwar Saga, or, in reality, Pt 2 of Bk 1. Zach shares his spoiler-lite reaction to Magician: Master, by Raymond E. Feist. Did Feist land the plane? Jim thinks so, but Zach? Take a look. #Riftwar #Fantasy #SFF https://youtu.be/iP2H_d5Ye8I

Hasbro Layoffs: Like most gamers my age I read the _Riftwar_ books in High School and liked them well enough, but there was always one scene that stuck with me: when Prince Arutha is promising that unless the Mockers thieves guild relinquishes their claim on Jimmy, the crown will spare no expense in burning them out root and branch. The Mockers are aghast at this, as there is no profit in it for anyone. To which Arutha replies that he doesn't care about profit.

@yerald @bookstodon In between newer books, I've started doing this with Raymond Feist's #Riftwar saga. It's been great fun so far!
