#REF2021

It fascinated me during my time in #REF2021 how little attention this receives:
"England allocates about £2bn each year to [REF-based] funding – you may wish to compare this to £44bn of sector income (from all sources, public and private) each year, or to the £21bn higher education providers spend on employing staff. "

Sure, it is about accountability.
It is about the ranking.
And everything else.

But in the current crisis, this seems sobering to me.

Do you really have to sign up to a political agenda to get research funding?

The evidence suggests not

It is connected to our institution's commitment to #OpenResearch and you can find the University of #Dundee's Statement on #OpenResearch here:

As a personal reflection, I am very happy that the #REF2021 role got me motivated to lobby for the Open Research Champion roles in our two Schools.
In addition to addressing an important strategic need in our #interdisciplinary research environment, this was a great first initiative!

Analyzing REF outputs: exploring new approaches December 2022 REF—the Research Excellence Framework—is an evaluation of the research impact of UK higher education institutions. In a recent study, Science-Metrix, collaborating with Technopolis, investigated the possibilities for using machine learning and automated processes on REF 2021 data. The goal of this study, which was commissioned by a group of […]

#Introduction

Hi Mastodon!

I work at the School of Health Sciences, University of Dundee.

I research #MentalHealth MentalIllness #Multimorbidity.

I am interested in Health-related Quality of Life #HRQL
#HealthEconomics.

I have experience in the assessment & evaluation of research, thanks #REF2021 😂

I am a #NightshiftEditor & post about editing, publishing & #PeerReview.

Looking forward to exchanges about all these & will post the odd picture of my Scottish Environs.

The UK gov, UK uni leaders, those representing #REF2021, etc., constantly talk about world leading, internationally excellent, science superpower, and so on, but when it comes to disagreements over pay, benefits & conditions the comparable level is now national? Not appropriate. #ucurising #ucustrike #USS
