Wasm's Identity Crisis: What the 3.0 Release Tells Us About WebAssembly's Uncertain Future

WebAssembly 3.0 dropped, and the developer community has some thoughts. Business as usual on the internet, right? Sure, but this update to the specification also dredges up ongoing questions about the purpose and identity of WebAssembly (Wasm) that are worth revisiting. Born from the ashes of Mozilla’s asm.js and Google’s Native Client in 2015, two

@linux_mclinuxface Methodology of TIOBE index is subject of controversy for the long time and the fact #Rust has great docs.rs as reference with own search engine may take away Rust's point as people simply search less. Add the fact there's a game called Rust that may steal search results in statistics.

On #RedMonk index #Pascal and #Perl are significantly lower. Rust retains the position.

RedMonk's programming language rankings show the most stability ever recorded! JavaScript still reigns supreme, but here's the twist: Stack Overflow usage dropped 90% thanks to AI, making their data about as reliable as debugging with console.log() in production 🤖

RedMonk Ranks Top Programming Languages Over Time - and Considers Ditching Its 'Stack Overflow' Metric - Slashdot

The developer-focused analyst firm RedMonk releases twice-a-year rankings of programming language popularity. This week they also released a handy graph showing the movement of top 20 languages since 2012. Their current rankings for programming language popularity... 1. JavaScript 2. Python 3....

What if defining #open #licensing terms around #AI followed a new path? 🤔

"[Lets find] a new, clean slate term of choice – one that accurately conveys the portions of a model that are open, while not falsely advertising its features by applying the open source brand to non-open source assets" #Redmonk

The Narrows Bridge: From Open Source to AI

In November of 1938, construction began on the Tacoma Narrows bridge in Washington state. Twenty months later in July of 1940, it opened to traffic. Connecting the Tacoma and the Kitsap Peninsula west of Seattle, it was at the time the third longest suspension bridge in the world. From the first day of construction it

#SW2con started out with an excellent keynote from the #RedMonk analyst team, the intersection of developers and AI, how we got here and what are the issues. Some papers to read linked from the QR codes. /cc @CSLee @rstephensme
Kicking off #sw2con with three of the #RedMonk analysts (@rstephensme is my favorite one)

Recently gave a talk on the importance of collaboratively understanding developer productivity using science, instead of mind reading. Massive thanks to #RedMonk for having me and for creating the delightfully inclusive event and community that is #Monktoberfest. Truly one of my favorite experiences this year! PS I would like to formally brag that I hand knit the top that I am wearing (pictured) 😁 #knitting #developer #SoftwareEngineering @seresearchers

The open source aspect of the business source license to me is – that’s just a fop that people throw to themselves to make themselves feel better…

Because when was the last time you talked to a developer and said:

“Hey, here’s a project. Do you want to go use a version that’s two, or three, or four years old?”

No one wants to do that, ever.
