Met behulp van het GNIRS-instrument van de noordelijke Gemini-telescoop hebben astronomen onlangs een tweetal samensmeltende quasars opgespoord die we waarnemen zoals ze er slechts 900 miljoen jaar na de oerknal uitzagen. Dat is voor zo'n koppel zeer bijzonder want het is binnen het tijdperk van de reionistatie..
