It's a lonely life for the sole remaining #OceanLiner in operation, but we enthusiasts are happy she exists. On #ThisDayInHistory in 2004, #RMSQueenMary2 was christened by #QueenElizabethII. #QM2 is the largest #liner ever built and the only one still on the North Atlantic route.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1787 was born Samuel #Cunard, founder of the #CunardLine, one of the great Atlantic #OceanLiner operators. RMS Britannia of 1840 revolutionized transport between the continents, and they have in #QM2 the only purpose-built liner still on the Atlantic run.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1967, the #QueenElizabeth2 (#QE2) of the #Cunard line was launched in the UK. The last large ocean liner built on the Clyde in Scotland, she served for decades as the only transatlantic liner in service, until replaced by the French-built Cunarder #QM2.
