Catching up on some personal #prophage work. Couple of tooling changes worth noting.

1> Genomad is noticeably faster at bulk processing compared to other comparable pipelines. If you haven't already you should really try it out

2> Latest Phold gpu performance feels a LOT faster and lighter

Prophage induction can facilitate the in vitro dispersal of multicellular Streptomyces structures

Little is known about the impact of phages on Streptomyces physiology. In this study, induction of the prophage ’Samy’ was found to enhance the dispersal of multicellular aggregates of Streptomyces ambofaciens bacteria in response to stress, likely promoting lineage propagation.

Researchers reveal how a virus hijacks insect sperm: May help control disease vectors and pests

A widespread bacteria called Wolbachia and a virus that it carries can cause sterility in male insects by hijacking their sperm, preventing them from fertilizing eggs of females that do not have the same combination of bacteria and virus.

Prophage excision switches the primary ribosome rescue pathway and rescue-associated gene regulations in Escherichia coli - PubMed

Escherichia coli has multiple pathways to release nonproductive ribosome complexes stalled at the 3' end of nonstop mRNA: tmRNA (SsrA RNA)-mediated trans-translation and stop codon-independent termination by ArfA/RF2 or ArfB (YaeJ). The arfA mRNA lacks a stop codon and its expression is repressed by …
