To escape or pass out: Steam
1. The escape or release of vaporous waste material
2. An apparatus for drawing out noxious air or waste material by means of a partial vacuum.
Some systems eliminate the catalytic converter.
- Converters may not be removed!
The purpose of a catalytic converter is to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
Transforming the polluted exhaust components into water and carbon dioxide
Catalytic converters can cause back pressure if they are not designed for the required flow rate or if clogged.

Mufflers typically reduces the noise level by bouncing sound waves off
• some original equipment mufflers are a significant source of backpressure.
Reflections partially cancel each other out.
Resonators expand to a larger diameter and allow the sound waves to reflect off and cancel out.
Resonators can be used inside mufflers, or also as separate components in an exhaust system
