It's a foggy day here today. I can't see the hotel on the top of the hill and I can barely see to the end of the neighbour's driveway. It's 0C/32F and it feels like -4C/25F. Very glad that I don't have anything to do out and about today...

Earlier this morning, it wasn't yet foggy and the window blinds opened to fluffy, floating snowflakes drifting lazily across the window.

I also opened up the seasonal clothing bag and pulled out my sweaters that I knit last year. I need to finish shifting the wardrobe over to winter mode. We'll also start doing the holiday decoration (and battery checks and replacement).

I have also learned about Flying Tiger (I can only describe it as a cheap and cheerful novelty store) and honestly, I need to forget they exist until next Halloween. But I do have an adorable acorn basket.

I think I need to set up a tripod and camera when I do yard clearing and just take photos of the progress when I take breaks and do a timelapse.

Not because I want to plaster it on the internet (but I probably will because who doesn't love a chaos to ... well, with me it will never be order, but it will be different... time lapse?

Mostly so I can look and go "yes, I did make progress today". There's something in my brain that moves the goalposts of how much progress I've made. Not sure if it's a childhood trauma thing or a neurodiverse thing, but I really can't properly gauge progress without a visual before and after. And I'm so bad at taking the before photos.

But, we have rain in the forecast through Sunday, so I think the current pivot is going to be getting the rest of the raised beds put together and start working on getting those in place.

Okay, I think I've ordered the last of the plants for ... now. Look, we all know how plant math goes. That and I have a big expanse that I plan to do unwise things to in the autumn for tulips and narcissus next year.

I ordered some purple asparagus crowns and rhubarb crowns to get established in a raised bed. I also ordered some sunchoke tubers and snacking cucumber plants because I didn't plant any of those...

We also have some hostas coming to replace the spindly weird plants I don't love in the borders, some creeping thyme, a recommended not-daisy that's known here as Spanish Summer Daisy (Spanisches Sommer-Gänseblümchen), and more gladiola bulbs because I do love them so much. A few more strawberry varieties (because I have a problem), and some poppy seeds, some petunias, and a lovely deep burgundy rose (Black Baccara).

I know that the sunchokes will probably want to spread and I'm wondering if containing them to a raised bed will be sufficient or if I should put them in a container. I plan on harvesting them for the edible tubers, but I have heard many tales of the impossibility of getting them all.

I think this week's project is going to be rotating through the raised beds that need to be built and just get them put together and then figure out where they'll go.

This might be a multi-week project given that the 12 foot bed took me three days to put together (I think I've figured out a better way).

(GG, me. Way to post before finished.)

Our temps are going to be in the 20s and sunny through Friday, so this is a great time to get it going.

I also have a plan for growing lettuce so we have a nice rotation of that happening while I'm firmly in warm weather salad consumption.

A little disappointed that my window planter plans are likely not going to happen this year, but I think I can figure out a second option. I might also just put them on the top floor windows since there aren't that many.

I picked up some cotton/acrylic to make placemats out of. I was going to do a linen stitch (knitting) with them but then I remembered that I have a rigid heddle loom and I think I'm going to do that instead. It's a more 'economic' use of the yarn and I think I'll be happier with the end result.

I might go back and forth a bit since i'll need to find/unearth a suitable warp yarn but I think I'll probably be doing that.

Today I learned that you can have an ebook library on Audiobookshelf.

I also learned that I needed to do a bit of finagling with the service I use to run Audiobookshelf but I got it working and I'm excited to have web access to my library. It will ease travel-book selection anxiety, I think.

It also means that I have a cloud backup for my ebook library.

I am now at the point where I need to stop shopping for fabric (but the deals! So good!) and start sewing, lest this become the same situation as my yarn collection vs knitting hobby.

To that end, I'm going to go through all my fabric, separate them into planned projects and not, pin the name of the planned project on the fabric and then put it away.

I am very excited to make my own ski pants for this winter, though. I love bibbed pants and they never work out quite like I need. I will need to get the waterproof outer, though.

Our rain forecast has evaporated, so now I'm planning out my yard and workshop based activities for next week.

I need to measure and cut out the window screens (I love living in Europe. It's great. I gotta have my window screens, though. I do not love yellowjackets in my house), I need to lay the 320 litres of bark onto the flat area that's been cleared from nettles, and I need to mow the area near the kitchen so I can put up the rotary airer now that it looks like Summer might be upon us.

Sunday, being a no-power-tools day will likely be me gathering and moving tree limbs that I've been collecting since we moved in. (They're being kept for Hügelkultur raised beds that are on the winter build list.)

We have had a few days of rain here and I hate rain pants. But I also hate getting wet.

Enter the idea for a rain skirt (or, as I found it was called in the ultralight community - rain kilt). so I'm working out how I'd want to make that work as something that's able to work over all thicknesses of clothing, and then I had the idea of a removable quilted liner for winter.

I love how quickly I've gone from "I'm sewing from a pattern and I'm terrified I'm going to mess it up" to "I have a niche desire and I will make it happen."
