Outgrow the system – Wirtschaft neu denken - Die ganze Doku | ARTE

Like #EarthOvershootDay the #DoomsdayClock is a metric driven by good intentions but done with a questionable methodology. Where Overshoot Day fails to capture huge problems like species extinction, there’s no scientific method what a second or hour on that “clock” means. Climate change, cited in the current decision to move the clock four seconds forward, will lead to long-lasting suffering by billions, but not human extinction. There are better metrics, like #PlanetaryBoundaries.

I can highly recommend watching this YouTube #video/ listening to the #podcast by Nate Hagens with Johan Rockström! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaboF3vAsZs

Here are some takeaways from the podcast:
Johan Rockström is explaining the nine #PlanetaryBoundaries 🌍 and that 6 out of 9 have been transgressed ⚠️.
We are in a planetary #emergency 🌍🤒, meaning that we are facing unacceptable risks and we are running out of time. ⌛️ But it's not too late.
Talk 🗣 to your friends, colleagues & family about the planet!

“Involuntary parks” — lands emptied by war, pollution or conflict — can become accidental refuges for wildlife.

From the radioactive Hanford Reach to the disputed Kuril Islands, nature sometimes rebounds without people, raising difficult questions about conservation, recovery and responsibility.

Involuntary parks: Human conflict is creating unintended refuges for wildlife

Few locations on Earth are as haunting or deeply ironic as so-called involuntary parks — places too toxic, dangerous, or otherwise made off-limits for human habitation, but which have paradoxically and unintentionally become sanctuaries for wildlife in our absence. As the name coined by science fiction author Bruce Sterling suggests, involuntary parks weren’t established for […]
