Thanks to my friend and his Jurassic Park full of birbs*, I now have a handful of quill feathers with which to practice making... quill pens! :D

*Particularly the geese and the peacock, but admittedly, the fancy chickens, doves, ducks, turkeys, and emus (especially the emus) also leave some pretty feathers that can go for beautifying other projects.

Did you know that emus have bifurcated feathers?

A moment while #penmaking tonight. It was too beautiful not to try to take a picture.

Tonight's creation... a little study in green. 💚🖊️💚

Wow. Insane, but incredible.

This pen should not be. Everything about this project went wrong, everything about the result is wrong... except one thing. I found a couple of cracks and pinhole bubbles in the blank even before I started working with it; working around the cracks forced me to invert the blanks (so, for all intents and purposes, the ends of the blanks are in the middle of the pen). Shaping it around the pinholes made it beyond insane to get done; the cap barrel's far thinner than I like. Something absolutely freaky happened at the end of the sanding and polishing - which meant re-sanding and polishing (which, if you know #penmaking , you understand that that's most of the work!)

But she didn't crack. She survived what she shouldn't have survived.

She's born as the seventh month dies; I finally took the blanks off the lathe at about 11:50 PM, and assembled her shortly thereafter.

Well… I seem to get back into the rhythm of penmaking. This one… this one’s interesting. Been sorting through the detritus of what my previous regeneration had, and came across this half-blank. The pattern was always there, but it was intended for a fancier pen. The other half broke at some point. And, so… I was left with this part, which I used for this.

This evening I finished 6 new pens and pencils for a friend. Hope they like them.
