So I'm a long-time lurker on reddit (don't judge). I have been accessing the old version of the site that still works without js (mostly) at old.reddit.com for some years now without problems.

However, the last few weeks, it has become borderline unusable, returning often empty pages, requiring frequent reloads and exit node changes - like a throttled connection, maybe?

So I experimented a bit: vanilla Firefox with NoScript on, via VPN? No problem. Tor browser directly at the .onion site? No problem. It seems to be just the specific combination of Tor and clearnet that has slowed down ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The developer of Sync for Reddit is working on Sync for Lemmy, and more information about it can be found at https://old.reddit.com/r/syncforlemmy. Typical of Reddit, if you try to access the subreddit via the standard site, it’ll try to direct you to use their app instead.

You've all been asking about archiving #OldReddit lately from #WayBackMachine.

I guess if I start doing it too it will be #TooMuch.

So I'll stop this instant, #NOT! 🙂

A a recent policy change at reddit may kill of most if not all 3rd party apps, I've included a screenshot of the above link for the purposes of synopsis.
