2025-04-30 ObsPy Release 1.4.2

Dear ObsPy Users, a few days ago we released 1.4.2, the second bugfix release in the 1.4.x release cycle. Main purpose is to get an obspy version that is compatible with numpy 2.x while we finalize the next major release. Magnitude 6.1 #earthquake at almost 100 km depth about 100 km East of Antofagasta, #Chile about an hour ago (2025-03-06Z16:21). Nice depth phases. Data from station C1.AC01 (Pan de Azucar, Chile, courtesy Red Sismologica Nacional and delivered via EarthScope using #obspy software) I will never take for granted data like this being available. I am not sure this will always be the case.

Magnitude 6.0 #earthquake about 25 minutes ago (2024-10-16 07:46:32) - signal on station IU.ANTO (Ankara, Tyrkie) - plot made using free #obspy software.

Magnitude 7.4 #earthquake off the coast of #Kamchatka, Russia, 2024-08-17Z19:10 Signal on station IU.MAJO (Matsushiro, Japan) displayed using free #obspy software. Data courtesy of #earthscope

Magnitude 6 #earthquake near #Tonga ~40 minutes ago (2024-07-29Z13:07). Signal on station IU.AFI (Afiamalu, Samoa, Earthscope/USGS) with data obtained and displayed using free #obspy software. Shallow event (see surface waves) - likely not dangerous. (Hope not!)

The free #obspy python software allows you to make a "mock helicorder" plot of data from seismograph stations from almost anywhere around the world. This is today's datastream from station IU.DAV in the #Philippines. The first big signal is a magnitude 7.6 #earthquake. #aftershocks
