A #Caturday #NotALion in one of the #MedievalManuscripts of Pembroke College, Cambridge (now held at Cambridge University Library). #Manuscripts #Critters #MedievalAnimals

@thisismyglasgow There used to be a #NotALion hashtag on Twitter which was a wonderful repository of lions sculpted or drawn by people who were really not very good at lions.

@TetZoo has a short article up arguing the Kleinmachnow animal looks an awful lot like a boar, and boar are common in that part of Germany. Much more likely than a lion. I will confess to hoping it turns out to be a bear, but it looks more like a boar than a bear, and a bear would need to be wandering far afield.
So it's probably a boar.

In medieval manuscripts, lions are found not only in bestiaries but also in illuminated bibles and other religious works, and sometimes...

@aaronm Body and face shapes here are really similar. I think what you might be going with are the head curls and the somewhat glum expression, reminiscent of the cowardly lion in the movie version of The Wizard of Oz. Which I'd also classify as #NotALion.
@aaronm I think they're both #NotALion . I'm not seeing a #KindALion there, at all.

#notalion alert!
