Ruddy Duck Bubble Display: This male ruddy in his fancy suit (breeding plumage) is showing off his courting skills- he inflates his neck and then beats his chest with his bill so that air is released from his feathers and forms bubbles in the water. In case the female ruddy is not sufficiently dazzled, he then releases some of that neck air in a belching display. White-faced Ibis
In a small town in Montana where I recently visited family, there is a field that in the Springtime turns into a temporary pond. In May, it hosts a wild and completely unpredictable variety of birds that pass through, to the delight of the local birders. I paused there one morning to peek at a plover through binoculars when, all of a sudden, a flock of about 70 white faced ibis touched down.
