It wasn't intentional, but I just realised I'm on a loosely themed #AI reading spree. I'm currently working my way through The #Murderbot Diaries, which is thoroughly enjoyable. I interrupted the series because I wanted to read #Neuromancer though, and I just finished it. That one is now up there among the best books I have read. I loved it! I recently ordered #theAIcon by @emilymbender and @alex , but as it's still in the mail I'm now doing Network Effect first. More Murderbot goodness! #books #reading

Jeg måtte gi opp nyeste #Murderbot, Platform Decay 😔

Serien har gitt mye glede gjennom de forrige bøkene, men denne føltes altfor mye som mer av det samme, uten noe nytt. En secunit med eksistensiell krise og underernæring på sitcoms. Det var morsomt i starten, men nå trengs det mer.

Kanskje boken er skrevet med tanker om å melke så mye som mulig ut av TV-serien? Jeg skal ikke bedømme, siden jeg ikke har lest ferdig boken en gang.

The night before I finished listening to Platform Decay, the very recent sequel of the Murderbot diaries by Martha Wells. I enjoyed it. The frequent emotion checks, in which SecUnit tries to examine its feelings, come awkwardly close to my own practice. Again, I followed its struggles to communicate or not-communicate to humans with anxious interest. The resulting dialogues are often hilarious. There's a well working jump-into-action beginning. Otherwise the story is very linear and stretches only just to a novela-sized length. For a moment there I had the sacrilegeous wish there'd be a longer, more intricate, novel centering on a tentatively developing romance between SecUnit and Farai … don't hit me. Go read the book, it's fun as it is.

Aaahhhh!!!

My friends! The first part of their plural SecUnit/Murderbot fanfic is starting to go up! Two chapters today, and new chapters will be posted twice a week until all nineteen of part 1 are up.

The series is called Multiplicity Protocols, and Part 1 is Recursive Systems. Their name on AO3 is genderhexed.

They started writing before Platform Decay came out, so even though this technically takes place "after" the book series the version I read had no spoilers for Platform Decay. But I think they intend to work in the odd reference here and there. I haven't seen the final edit. Once it's up entirely I'll go through and do more promoting but with added notes about possible PD spoilers, if any. There might not be any, they haven't tagged for it.
