Hmmmmm.... I like how fluffy #okenite is - also fun fact: it turns gelatinous in HCl! (The things you learn from reading the whole #mindat page, lol. [Side note does Mindat have an @ over here?]) I think that would be fun to poke under a fume hood. (Alas I don't have any okenite or access to a fume hood.)

But I think I'm gonna go with #stibnite - kohl has been important for thousands of years, after all; plus, antimony has loads of uses both modern and ancient, iirc. (Don't ask me to name any right now lol. Migraine brain says mmm rocks.) And, stibnite *is* closely associated with arsenic - very similar symptoms if you ingest it, actually.

One wonders if using kohl was also poisoning oneself.... πŸ€”

I used to put up a page to follow the Mineral Cup with links to the crystal structures and details in #Mindat. But I have been reined in recently

You can see many of this years entries via the CrystalWorks link to the #365Minerals collection.

I have decided to kick against the pricks and cobbled together a new page with reduced functionality

The #365Minerals entry for today (15th May) is Mullite. A structure with lots of disorder (positional and substitutional). To check out details go to CrystalWorks. There is also a link to Mullite in #Mindat.

https://cds.dl.ac.uk/cgi-bin/cw_page/examples_rocks.html

All the #365Minerals entries are taken from the Entry a Day series posted on Twitter by Nadine Gabriel. Nadine (for very understandable reasons) has virtually abandoned that platform, and sadly she has deleted the #365Minerals series.

Haven't been following closely, but the #Mindat site is back
Just when you need a bit if innocent diversion it appears that the #Mindat site is down...

The #365Minerals entry for 26th February is Scolecite.

To check it out in CrystalWorks follow the link: https://cds.dl.ac.uk/cgi-bin/cw_page/examples_rocks.html

Scolecite is classified as a Natrolite Zeolite in #Mindat: https://www.mindat.org/min-3594.html

It is a calcium aluminosilicate. The Ca coordination has been set to zero for clarity in the structure displayed

@CWilbur It really is! Very easy to spend a long time on #Mindat !
@MATBGor Thanks btw for promoting #mindat. It’s a great participation site for localities.
