"within the open science initiative ‘Antscan’, we applied high-throughput synchrotron X-ray microtomography to capture phenotypes across a diverse and ecologically dominant insect group: ants. At https://www.antscan.info, we provide 2,193 whole-body three-dimensional ant datasets from 212 genera and 792 species to broadly cover the ant phylogeny with a global scope, also pairing phenomic data with genome sequencing projects."

High-throughput phenomics of global ant biodiversity - Nature Methods

Antscan is a publicly accessible database of synchrotron X-ray CT images of ants. The database covers almost 800 species from more than 200 genera and is coordinated with genome sequencing projects that will enable integrative analyses.

is happy to hear that https://doi.org/10.1101/2024.11.10.622888 “has been judged scientifically suitable for publication" in PLOS One after a round of peer review. Once "it meets all outstanding technical requirements" it will be published online. For the moment you all have to read the bioRxiv version. And can nonetheless already look into the full dataset yourself, for example at https://webknossos.org/links/U8wuIdhmfzWMr7rm

I made a lucky rabbit’s foot for our #microCT lab! Micro-CT scanners are really complex pieces of equipment, which means there are a lot of different things that can break or get buggy. Hopefully our sparkly purple rabbit’s foot adds just a little bit of luck that helps us to keep scanning smoothly!

Thank you to MorphoSource, the UMMZ, Roger Benson, and Cody Thompson for making this CT data available to researchers and artists!

I took a #microCT scan of an oak gall I found while waiting for the bus today. It had 4 emergence holes so I assumed all of the gall wasps had already emerged, but there are still several inside! If you look closely you can see them moving in the radiographs. 68 min scan.

Vorhersage von Schimmelpilzwachstum

Produktivität von Bioprozessen hängt sehr stark von der mikroskopischen Form der Schimmelpilze ab, daher wollen Forschende das Wachstum von Schimmelpilzen vorhersagen können.
