Got another opportunity to show the C² Julia Loop installation yesterday. This is just after setting up, later on people came to dance to dub music. Most didn't interact with the installation, but those who did seemed to have lots of fun! It's great to see people discover the boundary of the Mandelbrot set with their hands, because that's where you get the best pictures.

This is such a rewarding motif! Since the idea is so incredibly simple, I feel shy to take too much credit. Someone else must have tried to make a video loop with a complex square function in between long before me, right? Anyways, there is stuff to learn. How to set up lighting to get nice images, or that it's a good idea to turn off auto exposure. Adding color shifting was a good idea, and making it slowly rotate by itself kept things interesting enough so I could leave to take a leak. There are certainly more clever things to try. Or maybe add some way to make it react to audio signals.

I woke up at silly o’clock, so I did some work on my #PC6502 computer and scaled the mandlebrot up.
This is now 168x240 (screen is 272x480) and is using the screens rectangle function as I still can’t get a single pixel to plot.
When done it draws a white rectangle around the whole image.

Oddly enough I can’t get a pixel to plot, but I can get a line. So I did the #mandlebrot on my #PC6502 computer.
Had a play with colours and scales until I got a combination I liked.
The image in real life is much more vibrant.

That is truly beautiful, I have often marvelled at the patterns in nature, it seems to me that there are repetitions of them everywhere: tree branches, human veins, river deltas… I recall the #Mandlebrot set

I wrote a mandelbrot program for A/UX that uses the pre-ANSI C compiler it provides and the early version of curses without color or drawing character support. It was an interesting project! It should work on any UNIX variant. I've built and run it on A/UX and on modern Linux with a problem. The last photo is it running on Linux. #mandlebrot #unix #aux #mac #retrocomputing @slithymatt
